How Each Odds Format Works
Singapore bettors encounter five main odds formats across Singapore Pools and offshore sportsbooks. Each represents the same underlying probability β only the display differs.
Decimal Odds
The default format on most Singapore Pools and European-facing sportsbooks. Multiply stake by the decimal to get total return including stake. A $100 bet at decimal 2.50 returns $250 total ($150 profit). Decimal odds of 2.00 are evens.
Fractional Odds
UK-style odds shown as fractions. The numerator is profit per unit staked. Fractional 5/2 means $5 profit per $2 staked; decimal 3.50. Common on UK and Irish sportsbooks. Fractional 1/1 is evens.
Hong Kong Odds
Shows profit only β the decimal equivalent minus one. HK 1.50 returns $1.50 profit per $1 staked (decimal 2.50). Used on Asian sportsbooks handling large volumes of Asian handicap markets. HK 1.00 is evens.
Malay Odds
Hybrid format. Positive Malay odds (e.g. +0.50) show profit on a unit stake β equivalent to HK odds. Negative Malay odds (e.g. -0.67) show the stake required to win one unit β effectively the inverse. Malay odds near Β±1.00 represent evens.
American Odds (Moneyline)
US-style odds. Positive values show profit on a $100 bet; negative values show the stake required to win $100. +150 returns $150 profit per $100 staked (decimal 2.50); -200 requires $200 staked to win $100 (decimal 1.50). Rarely used on Singapore sportsbooks but common on US and international platforms.

How Implied Probability Relates to Value
Implied probability is the probability that the odds imply. It is calculated as 1 divided by decimal odds, expressed as a percentage. Decimal 2.00 implies 50%. Decimal 1.50 implies 66.7%. Decimal 3.00 implies 33.3%.
When you bet, you are essentially saying: "I believe the true probability of this outcome is higher than the implied probability of these odds." If the bookmaker prices an event at 2.00 decimal (50% implied) and you believe the true probability is 55%, that bet has positive expected value. Over many similar bets, this approach makes money.
Note: the sum of implied probabilities across all outcomes in a market always exceeds 100% on a real sportsbook β the excess is the bookmaker's margin. For a detailed example covering Singapore Pools vs offshore operators, see the Singapore Pools odds comparison guide.
